Oregon 2009

We reserved a hotel and restaurant on Odell Lake, in the shadow of Diamond Peak. The scenery was great, if you could see through the mosquitoes.

Our next choice was either Crater Lake and take the train from Klamath Falls or to head to Eugene. Based on info about taking bikes on various trains, we opted for Eugene, since we could avoid boxing the bike, or so we thought. That story later. First we descended for miles and then headed up the Aufderheide Road, a scenic byway.

Like other scenic roads, there were lots of pines, and no open views. This one started out benign enough, but it turned out the road went up to the end of a box canyon and then turned and climbed straight up the side of it. This would be our longest day and hardest climb!

We had aimed for Blue River because it appeared to have lots of accommodations. Sadly economic conditions and fires have reduced the choices. After a few false starts, we found this place, ironic that we stayed in the Lazy Bones cabin after our tough day. It was a very nice resort with a restaurant that was a bit of a stretch on the budget, but we earned it.

We wondered in we could get complimentary massage from our sponsor!
