Hill Climbs 2009

Mt Washington Recovery Ride

It was brutally hot after the race this year. Domi and Cristine opted for hanging out by the pool, while John and I did a little spin up to the Dolly Copp Road. The next day, the four of us headed out to explore a new route I had devised on the computer that was to take in some dirt roads north of Route 2 between Gorham and Jefferson. I'd found a photography site that included details on a few roads, Pond Safety and Bog Dam. I'd looked at online maps and paper maps and such and came up with, what I thought was a great loop.

Fortunately, everyone has a good sense of humor when my routes go wrong.

Normally when we head out on dirt roads, we get lovely hard pack raods, with little or no traffic. Most of the roads are quite suitable ofr road bikes with 25mm or wider tires. Do you sense where this is going?

This time, my research wasn't so accurate.

For once the gals cross bikes proved appropriate.

I was on my usual hill-climb bike with 25mm tires.

But this proved more of a challenge that we wanted. So we backtracked and found a few other options. Next year we will try a loop we have done before taking in Cherry Mountain and Jefferson Mountain roads.
