While Dominique and John raced up the mountain.
Cristine and Pamela drove the car to the top and did a hike down
to Lakes of the Clouds Hut. The day started cool, clear and brilliant.
The views were spectacular.

Those towers in the distance are the top. This
climb was much easier than the descent had been. Now I understand
why the T-shirt refers to Mt Washington as a rockpile. Every step
took care, as we walked from rock to rock, sometimes loose, sometimes
stable. Pamela's knees survived, but this was a real challenge.

We made it back in time to see Domique crack Top-Notch
time (less than 1:20)

Clouds started to roll in, and by the time the
racers could breathe and look around, the views were gone!

But our new Top-Notcher was on top of the world.

Is that a PUMP on John's super-light race bike?
Yes, he did indeed forget to remove the pump, after spending loads
of money buying super lightweight parts. He might have beaten
the other 40 year olds without the pump. Actually he might have
used it to beat himself silly if he had noticed it while racing
up! (BTW, he did have a saddle, the photo just cut it off)

John's Wednesday training buddy, Kristen, takes
second.

Top Notcher Domi takes her age group.

The men's top three, with a 40+ and 50+ on the
podium.

The men's 40+ had some stiff competition. While
John was 7th overall, he was third in his age group.
