California Wine Country
On Thursday, we rode the Sonoma southern loop.
This carried us out toward the coast and into Marin County. It
was a bit cooler than we expected, and coastal fog and wind rolled
in to make going a bit tougher. We stopped in Tomales at a spectacular
bakery, where we had coffee and pastries. We picked up a sandwich
next door, which we carried many miles in search of a sunny lunch
spot!

As we headed over the ridge back toward the east,
we spotted some sunshine. We should have stopped to eat here,
but it just seemed like it might be sunnier and warmer if we pressed
on. You know where this is leading, don't you...

The sunshine disappeared almost as soon as I took
the pictures. The winds picked up and we battled a ferocious headwind
through the valley. Tired of fighting the wind and hills, and
growing ever more hungry, we spied a few trees to form a wind
break, and we sat down practically in a ditch to have our sandwich!

Just as we returned the Occidental, we found bright
sunshine again. Only the coastal areas were fogged in. We drove
into Sebastopol for some shopping and dinner. It is a charming
town with loads of restaurants and a very good cd store, next
to a coffee shop with comfy chairs. I like this town!
